| 8/29/03, 3:21 p.m.: BUT THE SOUL STILL BURNS |
|
Ross went out and got the GC version of Soul Calibur 2 yesterday. Given the fact
that there really aren't that many new/original characters, and that the graphics are
decent but not awe-inspiring, I don't think it was worth a 3-year wait for a sequel.
However, it is still a an awesome game (perhaps the greatest fighter series ever in my opinion)
and we've had a blast with it so far. I look forward to figuring out all the best
button-mashing combinations with Lizardman, if we can ever figure out how to unlock him...
Having two wavebirds makes controller-swapping
that much easier, too. I look forward to settling all of our future apartment disputes
via SC2 tournaments =P And Sam, if you don't already have this game, you should go get it--it rocks.

..and it's covered in brushed aluminum. Andy (finally) managed to track down a
Panther beta yesterday, and got it installed on his G4. It actually looks pretty
sweet, and that expose thing appears to be a slick new feature. He claimed it ran
pretty fast, which is nice. However, it darn near killed his ibook when he installed panther on it, and when Ross
put it on his tibook, hardly any apps would work. So I've decided against putting it
on my 'book, since it's the only decent mac I've got. In other news, I finally have
a decent schedule worked out that leaves me with a nice lunch break every day and no class earlier than 9:30 am =) Only
problem is that it's entirely comprised of ME classes, with the exception of concert
band, of course. Oh, well. Hope classes are starting off well for all of you who are
still in school...

Before my brother went back to Iowa City last week, I asked him how many games he'd beaten this summer,
because it seemed to me that he'd just been mowing through them right and left. Turns out he managed to
finish 11 games this summer--I can only wish I had the same shocking game-playing efficiency, as I may have
completed 2, tops. Makes
me wonder if Brian is OC or something. He claims that he's trying to clear his slate so that he has
time to play Tactics Advance and Sword of Mana this fall (in addition to school, of course), but I just think
he's crazy. At any rate, consider this list a tribute to his accomplishments this summer (or perhaps a monument to a
colossal waste of time):
- Xenogears (started during spring semester)
- Ocarina of Time
- Wind Waker
- Metroid Prime (completed in 1 week)
- finished Golden Sun (started during spring semester)
- Rock n Roll Racing (GBA)
- WCIII: Frozen Throne
- Valkyrie Profile
- Zelda: A Link to the Past (gba - finished over a 4-day vacation)
- started Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter
- beat Dynasty Warriors 4 to a pulp
So congratulations, Brian, a winner is you =)

WOW. Due to the outbreak of the sobig.f virus, probably on a machine belonging to someone that
happens to be on the same unknown random ISU mailing list as me, I've been bombarded by automatic virus
detection emails generated from ISU's email-scanning software or something. At any
rate, the total count is up to 1794 emails (of which I think maybe 8 were legit), all in the last roughly 24 hours. That
has to be some kind of record...

|
Well, today marks my triumphant return to the internet, after an almost 2-week hiatus.
A big thanks to Andy for bringing over Jeff's transmogrifier/mr. fusion/box that
created the internet for our humble abode. Now we can all go back to squandering away
hours upon hours of our days on the vast electronic wasteland known as "teh intarweb."
Strange and scary how dependent I (and we) have become on the net for entertainment
and feeling connected...or something. I suppose I should put something interesting
here, but I can't put up any vacation photos until I figure out what Diesel's IP is,
since there seems to be some DNS issues going on. Vacation was really good, by the way, even
though it was way too short (like always). I really love Minnesota, and especially the peace and
quiet of a small but scenic lake like the one my Grandparents live on.

I know this is hardly an original suggestion, but I think Ross's rabbit is SO cool that it would
only be fitting to have him photographed with a pancake hat, in a kind of mock tribute to
Oolong. So here
you go, Ross--until you can afford a real pancake, here's a 'shopped picture of
Barry with a pancake beret:

Let this heartfelt endeavor be a sign of my willingness to forgive and forget, Barry =P
