1/29/04, 2:40 a.m.: So much mcnugget
Chicken nuggets: I could SO totally eat a hundred of those over the course of the super bowl - though my arteries (and any shred of dignity I yet possess) might have something to say about that =P
1/28/04, 12:17 a.m.: Me: 2, Andy: 0
I've decided this week to get the log updated with all the stuff that's been going on recently, since I have neglected to update much at all this month. So I realize this is old news for most of you, but with Andy as my motivation, I decided over the MLK weekend to get my tank set up again. So I went home and pulled all the stuff out of storage, cleaned it up and added some plants and new gravel, and I ended up with what you see below. Not too bad, really, especially once those plants grow up a bit.

I initially got two gold and two honey painted dwarf gouramis for the tank, as you can see in the pic. I got a kuhli loach, too, for old time's sake. I selected these particular ones because they looked the most active and healthy at the Ark. However, the poor kuhli barely lasted a day before he croaked, and me in my stupidity flushed him before I realized the Ark has a 48-hour survival policy. Then this past weekend, right before heading to KC, one of the dwarves gets this white fungus all over him, kinda like ick or something. So I put the ick treatment in the tank and then hit the road, came back on Sunday and he was belly-up. But his partner looked better than when I left, I think. Hopefully the others will be all right now, although the poor dwarf looks a bit lonely =(

So after starting with 5 fish, I am now down to 3, and much to my surprise, given the hastiness with which Andy put his tank together and added his balas, he has not lost ANY fish. And I even went to all the trouble to treat my water and let it sit out for a few days before adding fish. Go figure =)

My beautiful tank, soon to have more fish.
1/27/04, 1:02 a.m.: "Mom, I'm going to KC to hang out with some people I met on the Internet."
Went to KC this past weekend with Steve and Andy, and it was totally sweet. It was a lot of fun to really meet Alex, Bryan, and Victoria in person, and for longer than just one evening. Thanks guys for putting us up and showing us around town. And for the record, Alex makes pretty darn good French toast, Victoria has poor taste in movies but the greatest musical talent of the crew, and I may have found a fellow extreme eater in Bryan. I, as well, look forward to our next meeting =P

1/12/04, 11:30 a.m.: "Mountains're nice."
OMG VAIL. So Vail was really awesome, and instead of attending class like I am today, I wish I was still there snowboarding and hanging out. It was a lot of fun, thanks Andy for taking me along. The first couple days were a little rough as I tried to learn how to snowboard for the first time, but I think I got the hang of it pretty good by the end. Now I just need to go again somewhere before the winter is over so that I don't forget everything I learned =P Also sweet was all the snow everywhere - I have never seen so much snow in my life! Seeing real mountains in the winter with 3 feet of snow everywhere really made the trip for me, it was really pretty. I took a ton of pictures, which Andy has graciously hosted for me here. It was a good time, but now I need to refocus for my final semester as an undergrad.

1/3/04, 8:15 p.m.: Later, kids
Just less than 8 hours from now, we are planning on leaving Ames for Vail, Colorado for a little skiing and snowboarding fun. Hopefully the weather treats us well so we can make it there and back in one piece. Should be a great time, see you all later!
