ARCHIVES - June 2003
<-- back
6/21/03, 12:22 p.m.: Back to work
After such a nice vacation like I had a week ago, nothing jolts you back to the real world quite like starting a new job, and all the fun stuff associated with it like waking up at 6am and working for a full 8 hours. For those I haven't told yet, I started my summer job with Baker Group in Des Moines. They do mechanical conctracting (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security system design) for various conctruction projects in the Des Moines area, for those who are curious. I'm sure I will have more to say on this later, but for now, I give you what everyone has been waiting for, the incredibly exciting collection of photos from the fishing trip. Click here. Also, for those who care, that smallmouth bass that Jafar is holding is the biggest bass of any kind I have ever seen. Due to regulations on the lake, all smallies have to be returned to the water immediately, so we had no way to weigh it without taking it in. However, it was easily over 20" long, which is a enormous for a bass. My guess would be at least 5 or 6 pounds, though I'm sure that by a year from now, it will have been "at least 10 pounds." =)
6/10/03, 11:47 a.m.: Gone Fishin'...
Well, today is the day I have been looking forward to since summer began--the day I leave with my fishing buddies and head north to visit my Grandparents who live on Clitherall Lake in west-central Minnesota. It will be three or four straight days of fishing and hanging out and should be a great time, and I'm super pumped-up for it. Hopefully the weather will be nice. If nothing else, though, I get to see my Grandparents, and their nice but humble abode on a beautiful Minnesota lake. It's always a very nostalgic experience, too, since I have been going there just about every summer since I can remember with my family. As you can see below, I will be bringing only the essentials, including a newly-purchased GBA SP =P

fishing stuff

Also, speaking of fishing, Timmy "Fish 'N Hoops" Floyd got himself another NBA job yesterday, this time down in New Orleans with the Hornets. Hopefully things will go much better this time around, as he will have no excuses about player talent, grumpy GM's, etc. From the sounds of it, his biggest challenge will probably be to get the veteran players on the team to respect the all-time losing-est coach in NBA HISTORY. Good luck Tim, we'll be pulling for you.
6/9/03, 12:02 a.m.: Ben v. 2.0
As promised, here's the big bad update to my page layout, like it or not. Sorry to keep you all waiting =P I still don't like the color scheme yet, but it's at least okay for now. Due to "complaints" I received about the size of my last page, I made sure to make this one small and simple. I also wanted to learn how to use stylesheets/css, so this page makes good use of that technique, I think. A big thanks to Steve for letting me use his stylesheet as a starting spot. As I said before, I'm open to suggestions in terms of colors, font and/or layout. Let me know what you think. I'm not going to update the archives due to the work that that would involve, but I will update the rest of the stuff I have and those changes will be reflected as I get time to do it. Oh, and for the record, this was all done from scratch (no GoLive involved this time, Andy.) Enjoy =)
6/2/03, 8:48 p.m.: "Not a word of this to anyone, O Shrouded One..."
Wow, it's June already, and if my counts are accurate, I updated only once less last month than the King of Updates himself, Mr. Buck. This of course says nothing as to the size and/or quality of the page updates, but still. I think that's a record for me. That aside, I don't have anything of value to say since not a whole lot is going on. I officially checked out of the apartment this morning and am now living at home, for better or worse. I guess I went fishing tonight, too, in spite of the sub-par weather. However, both the weather and the numerous dead fish scattered around the shores of Little Wall Lake should have been a sign, as we got nothing out of the fishing excursion except cold hands and feet. Better luck next time, I guess. Oh, and y'all (that one's for you, Steve) can expect a change to my wretched page layout in the near future, as soon as I can decide on a font and color scheme. I'm still open to suggestions, however...
