5/17/04, 6:19 a.m.: Shove off, eh
In a few minutes I will leave for Europe for three weeks with Jess and Kyle ... and I will finally make it off this continent for the first time. I am pretty excited but today will be a long day. Wish me luck - hope all goes well and I make it back in one piece with plenty of stories to share. Peace out.
5/9/04, 11:58 p.m.: Mega Update
With the exception of last week's post, I haven't updated at all in over a month, including all of April 2004, which evidently was sucked into some kind of a space-time vacuum. It was one crazy month and incredibly busy, but it is all done now that I am officially graduated (as of Saturday), though I suppose I have to wait until they send me the diploma in the mail to call it official. Other exciting(?) things did happen however:

-- My ibook broke after catching the broken-motherboard illness, as many of you were well aware. Apple did me a huge favor and fixed it for me, in spite of having a self-voided warranty ... then neglected to send back my original power adapter. They sent me a free replacement free of charge two days later, however. When I went to re-install Panther, however, the screen went crazy again, so I was super pissed. Then I thought maybe it was a software issue and NOT related to a sloppy repair job, and sure enough, updating to 10.3.3 did the trick. Crazy -- but I have a working iBook now =)

-- I also officially decided on a graduate school, though most have probably heard by now. I will go to the University of Minnesota next year and study water resources in the Civil/Environmental Engineering Department. Although Minnesota was not anywhere near the top of my list when my grad school search started, I was most interested in the research being done there and the professors whom I had visited with left the greatest impression on me. Plus they have an intramural soccer team at the fluids lab where I will be working =) Although I have my doubts about life in the big city, I think I can adjust, and I am excited to start there next fall and get out of Ames for a bit.

-- A week from tomorrow I leave for a 3-week tour of Europe with Jess, Ross, and Kyle (S). This will mark the first time I have ever left the U.S., and I am pretty excited to go. I realize we will be pretty obvious tourists, but I am hoping we don't get too much crap for being Americans (*grumble*Bush*grumble*). Right now it looks like we will be making a whirlwind tour of Amsterdam, southern Germany (Munich, Fussen, etc.), Austria (Salzburg), and the northern half of Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome, Turin, etc). We fly in and out of Paris, so we will also spend some time there both upon arrival and departure, and probably will make a quick tour of Nice/Marseilles, too. Should be an excellent time.

-- Thanks to everyone who came to the grill-out on Saturday night -- hope you all had a great time, in spite of the uncooperative weather.
5/5/04, 2:11 a.m.: /isu
As of right now, I am officially done with my last semester as an undergrad, and in all likelihood my last at ISU. I suppose officially I have to go through the ceremony on Saturday and get my diploma in the mail, but provided I wake up in time to turn in my reports tomorrow morning, I will have fullfilled all obligations. And what a ride it has been.

Let summer begin...
