OCTOBER ARCHIVE

10/31/02, 11:59 p.m.: Quickie.
Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Halloween before I, uh, go to work in a half hour. Sorry, I don't have much of anything creative to put up at this moment, maybe later...
10/30/02, 9:18 p.m.: Great...
So last night while I was trying to upload that picture when my internet decided to clunk out. It just now started working again. My apartment-provided DSL service is the most worthless operation I've ever seen--it goes down for days at a time at the most random times with no good explanation. Ugh. And if that wasn't bad enough, I have been working 10 hour shifts starting at 6 a.m. all week--and found out yesterday that I have to come in at 1 a.m. Friday to get stuff cleaned up for first shift, which starts at 6. I've decided not to even try going to sleep Thursday, and will just sleep all day Friday. Can't wait. I just love work sometimes...
10/30/02, 12:15 a.m..: My own switcher commercial, take one.
I borrowed a digital camera from work to take some pictures of my computers so that I could peddle them on ebay. At work, the poor folks had to download the Nikon software just to get the pictures off the camera. With my extra cool Pismo laptop, I simply plugged the damn thing in, opened up iPhoto, and clicked "import." My pictures were then automagically downloaded and displayed at my convenience =) Here's one of my current computer setup in my apartment:
See if you can spot all 5 (yes five) computers, and the PS2. It's quite the ghetto setup =)
10/27/02, 10:00 p.m.: And Shaolin win the Champion!
For starters, if you haven't seen Kung Fu Soccer, then you are seriously missing out. Think Jackie Chan meets World Cup. I saw it again this weekend (courtesy of Ross), and it was just as great the second time. I'd also like to mention that Daylight Savings kicks a lot of ass, although it doesn't do much to soften the blow I'm going to take tomorrow morning when I have to get up at 4 am to get to work by 5 am. What a harsh joke--I hate work sometimes. Ugh. On the other hand, I'm going to bed as soon as I put up this update, meaning that this will be the first time I've gone to bed before midnight since probably sometime in high school.
Finally, I'd like to formally apologize to all of you who, like Ross, were seriously offended by my "challenge" to name the source of my page design. I did not mean to insult your intelligence or your status as "square-heads." However, Steve was still nice enough to oblige my ignorance with a reply, and so I give him my stamp of approval for the day =)
10/24/02, 12:50 a.m.: I came. I saw. I conquered.
One of my recent computer projects involved a couple of older Titanium Powerbooks. I had one working one with a cracked screen, and just got one this week with a fried mobo and a working screen. After spending a good 6 hours over the last two evenings hacking apart these two wonderful machines, I miraculously constructed one full-blown, *working* 500MHz TiBook! And I had no left over screws! After discovering that I had to remove the bottom half of the case, the hard drive, DVD-ROM drive, and motherboard (not to mention 37 screws!) just to replace the screen, it was obvious to me that Apple engineers never intended for mere mortals to perform such a procedure. I think it was pure luck that I managed to piece it together and have it work on the first try. TiBooks are pretty damn cool when they have working screens, by the way ;-) I'll keep you posted on whether or not I can re-assemble the other heap of parts into a machine again...
And Ross, please try to think of a happy place, and remember that we all still love you =)
10/20/02, 8:23 p.m.: Could Have Done Without THAT.
For those of you who, like me, wasted any amount of time Saturday afternoon watching the abomination known as Iowa State football: I'm sorry. I declare that ass whupping the Sooners laid on the poor 'Clones yesterday afternoon the WORST football game I have ever seen. Period. And keep in mind I've seen a lot of Cyclone games, including all of the 1990's. That's how bad it was. So much for Seneca Wallace getting the Heisman, huh? I certainly hope ISU puts together a better effort next week against Texas. I guess on the positive side of things, the Cyclone Shootout is taking place next weekend, meaning that basketball season is just around the corner...
10/18/02, 12:26 a.m.: The Grand Opening
I decided that I didn't want to be the only nerd without his own rant page, so after some urging from Andy, I have created this special page devoted to posting whatever happens to be on my mind or going on in my incredibly exciting life, or if you care how my VGM team is doing, etc. I can't promise daily updates like Sam, but I hope to at least update it more frequently than Ross does =)
For starters, I'll give props to anyone who can guess the source of my (attempted) page design; it shouldn't be too tough to tell, but I'll give double kudos to Andy if he can figure it out since he's at a decided disadvantage. And don't cheat by looking at the image names, either.
Oh, and for the record, this page was made on a Macintosh ;-) A 400MHz "Pismo" Powerbook G3, more specifically. I love this computer...
Oh yeah, and GO CYCLONES!!!!
